We had a wonderful time at the launch party and book signing, held at Burswood Park, Western Australia. Sunday brought a welcome cool change in the weather, with the skies opening to brilliant cerulean in time for the party to begin.
We had an array of treats for our guests to nibble, arranged among the many stained glass lanterns Ashlee has amassed. (Yes, another of her collections.) Our afternoon tea menu featured:
Carrot and tzatziki canapés
Tomato and mozzarella ‘toadstools’
Banana bread mini loafs
Passionfruit butter in filo pastry
Individual honeycakes
Cheese and chive scones
Greek salad kabobs
Avocado-stuffed cherry tomatoes
Gingerbread cakes
Grape, blueberry, and raspberry kabobs
Lemon iced tea, apple and pear juice, and water was served from lovely drink dispensers into our clear acrylic teacups. Catering for fancy parties is one of Ashlee’s favourite things in life.
The many children in attendance enjoyed playing under an adjacent tent in the pirate ship ball pit and with the building blocks shared by Ashlee and Ty’s godson for the duration of the party. Some of the adults also joined in with the fun when the lightweight balls turned into projectiles.
The books were soon lined up at the signing table, with one of the poster prints of Chapter Twelve’s illustration displayed for all to see. Guests came to receive their copy of The Damning Moths, as well as their pre-order bonus poster and signed bookplate. A number of the recipients settled into the clustered chairs to start reading right away.
Many thanks to all who could join us, and the many who were separated by oceans but were there in spirit. Thanks also to Sharon, Carol, Dave, Colin, Braidyn, Nicola, Matthew, Stuart, Leslie, Chelsey, and Chris, for all their help in acquiring supplies, preparation, setup, and after party cleanup.
